Well, of the 5 items tested, only 1 was a little over the normal range, my KCT.
I made a chart to compare the results of my APAS tests from 2009-2012. So far, I have done the test 3x already... Looks like there were some improvements in my results over the years... Yipee! :) But the fact remains, I'm still positive for APAS... huhuhu! Hope the next time I test for this, it would be within normal range already... :)

Antiphospholipid
Antibody Test (APA)
Antibodies are
special cells that are supposed to help our bodies attack foreign invaders,
like bacteria from colds and infections. Sometimes though, the body mistakes
its own cells for invaders and attacks them, causing a host of problems. This
is the case with antiphospholipid antibodies - they attack our own cells.
Antiphospholipid
antibodies are proteins that circulate around in the bloodstream. These
proteins bind to cell membranes, making them sticky. This prevents our blood
from flowing properly, resulting in blood clots. These antibodies can endanger
the health of both you or your baby. High levels of antiphospholipid antibody
are often associated with unexplained infertility including: recurrent
miscarriage, stillbirth, placental insufficiency, implantation failure and
increased rates of IVF failure.
It is thought that
antiphospholipid antibodies compromise the placenta which nourishes your baby.
Because the antibodies cause clotting, the embryo is cut off from oxygen and
nutrient support. As a result, spontaneous miscarriage or fetal death can occur.
Clotting can also cause distress to the placenta, making it difficult to have a
successful implantation. (Source: sharedjourney.com)
There are several kinds of
antiphospholipid antibodies. The two most commonly measured kinds are 1). lupus
anticoagulant and 2). anticardiolipin antibody. These two are closely related, but are
not the same antibody. This
means that a person can have one and not the other.
1.Lupus Anticoagulant
Lupus anticoagulant is a specific type of
antiphospholipid antibody that exists in your bloodstream. It is actually
a protein, which causes your blood to clot differently in your arteries and
veins than it normally should.
A specialized blood tests
called coagulation tests measure blood clotting and are used to find the lupus
anticoagulant. Here are the tests done:
a). Kaolin Clotting time (KCT)
b). Activated Partial Thromboplastin time
(APPT)
c). Dilute Russel Viper Venom Time (DRVVT)
Each of these tests works to detect lupus
anticoagulant by measuring the time it takes for a sample of your blood to clot
in a test tube. If it takes longer than normal for your blood to clot
inside the test tube, it is more likely that you have lupus anticoagulant in
your blood.
2. Anti-Cardiolipin Antibody (ACA)
Cardiolipin
antibodies are
proteins found in your body that work against cardiolipin. Cardiolipin is a
molecule found in your blood platelets and various cell membranes. It is one of
a group of molecules called phospholipids. You need cardiolipin in order to
help regulate blood clotting throughout your body. Sometimes though, your body
can mistake cardiolipin for an attacking substance. As a result, your body
creates soldier-like molecules to fight against the cardiolipin. (Source: www.sharedjourney.com)
Women with cardiolipin
antibodies have a harder time getting pregnant and carrying their pregnancies
to term. This may be because anti-cardiolipin antibodies can cause tiny blood
clots, preventing blood from flowing to the reproductive organs or placenta.
Treatment
for high antiphospholipid or anticardiolipin antibodies
If you do test high for
antiphospholipid or anticardiolipin antibodies, you may be recommended to take
low-dose aspirin and the anticoagulant Heparin as treatment. Treatment is
aimed at reducing the number of clots in your blood, and restoring blood flow
to the placenta.
If you
are suffering from unexplained infertility or recurrent miscarriages, it might
be a good idea to undergo APAS testing as this might be the cause of your
inability to get pregnant or maintain a pregnancy. Ask your reproductive
endocrinologist or your OB about it.
This
might just help you... Knowledge is power!

Very informative. When should a woman undergo an APAS test? Where else can this be availed?
thank you for the info and sharing your experience. I learned a lot. I am supposed to have my APAS test soon. wish me luck!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I can feel that I am not alone. I just had my D&C last month.
Actually it was my second. My babies' heart beats stopped between 7-8 weeks. Baby dust to all of us!
Sometimes it helps to surf the web for you can find comfort and strength from other people's experiences. I am also going through the same problem. I had my D & C a week ago, it was actually my second. The first one was in the year 2008. Early Fetal Death happened about 8-10 weeks. My OB recommended me to another doctor for further workup to consider APAS.
its really nice to read and be knowledgeable of our health condition, in ma case i had my first MC last 2011 and just now I just had my ob check up and ultrasound.. no fetal heart beat.. My OB recommended that after my D&C. I should meet an immunologist for further work up to consider APAS.. Really hurts a lot to lose another baby..

Thanks for sharing. I am supposed to take an APAS work up and my OB referred me to PGH. I have two MC already. The first one was in March 2012. My baby's heartbeat stopped between 8-9 weeks and had my D&C. The second one was two weeks ago. My baby was just 4-5 weeks. My OB then recommended me to undergo an APAS workup. I am hoping for a positive result. So frustrating and really hurt to lose another baby.
i have the same condition, too. Thanks Deb for sharing all these. I am also starting on my blog, my own journey of coping with this disorder. Www.apasphilippines.com
Hi! I'm wondering, how much does an APAS test cost?
I just had my dc last week a lot of people says that the most crucial time during pregnancy is your 1st trimester so when im at my 11th week im so excited that i almost reached my last week of my first trimester im overweight and at the same time a hypertensive so the doctor told me to loss some weight during pregnancy which i tried on my 11th week the doctor told me to have my tvs coz for the pass 2 weeks she cant hear any heartbeat maybe its bcoz mataba ako so when i went to the clinic to have my tvs the doc says that my baby has no cardiac activity i almost feel down on my knees cried but i just realize that maybe god has a reason. When i went back to my ob she told me to undergo for an apas test to check daw coz theres this thing na if positive na nasa blood mo yon theres still a possibility na when you get pregnant mag kaka mc ka ulit.

Hi is there any vitamins that we need to take or fruits and vegetables that we need to eat or how about herbal medicine to fight APAS.my ob referred me to an immunology since ay already had 2 miscarriage, the first was in 2011,it was only 6 weeks and there was no hearbeat, the 2nd was 2 weeks ago,it was 18 weeks already the baby was in good condition but all of a sudden my water bag broke, based on the biopsy the placenta was already on its third trimester.
hello everyone.. as I read your comments, my experience of having 2 miscarriages occurred to me.. I was so down then.. but when I had my 3rd, i was having another spotting again on my 6th week..then it was found out im having APAS.. my entire pregnancy was having injections daily in my tummy with heparin.. plus all the medications and vitamins.. i was confined to bed until i gave birth thru CS in my 34th week... frequent visits to my OB and immunologist and more prayers gave me my daring little girl.. and she is 7 years old now... having APAS is not a problem at all as along as you take all the medication.. plus prayers.. surely you will have a successful pregnancy...
I'm a bit relieved realizing I am not the only person was given a fair share of sending angels up to heaven for two times already. I just had a miscarriage two weeks ago. I'm supposed to be 19weeks and then found out my baby's heartbeat just stopped and it didn't developed..fetal size is just 14wks. my first pregnancy was in 2012 but it was stillbirth. It's my kabuwanan na sana then it just happen like that..now my OB advised me for APAS test.. Keeping my fingers crossed for a positive result and same for all you guys! Xo

Hello po..may I know po how much ung IV treatment for APAS? Kasi I had 2 D&C na, then I am 8weeks pregnant now, and I'm afraid to lose another baby again. Thanks for sharing encouragemnts.
Hi. I am a bit curios about my case. My first born baby is healthy, term via normal delivery. Then had miscarriage on my second it never had a heartbeat. My OB asked me to test for APAS. I took the test and she said I am positive. I am doubtful cause on the APTT I got 25 and control is 25 also. and the 2 other items under anti lupus is like 3 to 4 digits bago ako umabot sa control. I just have this feeling na di ako positive, I don't know why. Im currently pregnant and not taking the aspirins. im already on my 9th week and baby is healthy so far. any suggestions? thank you all!
Hi, i'm happy to have stumbled upon your blog. I had an m/c last year and a second one just last month. In between the time i had a terrible case of non-perpueral mastitis. I struggle to keep it together everyday, feeling ko i'm sufferring from PTSD already from what i've been going through, sa awa ng Panginoon i can still face the day. My OB just advised me to lose weight. I feel overwhelmed with that requirement bec iv been trying to lose weight all these years to no avail. Im a stay-at-home mom to my firstborn (no problems at all with my first pregnancy), at hindi naman kami ng asawa ko ganun ka well off to afford gym membership, etc. Maybe i need to be more resourceful but right now it feels like a great challenge to shed the pounds. However, my OB did mention about APAS and i will definitely get myself tested by getting an immunologist sa PGH.
hi, how are you? I miscarried twice and diagnosed in APAS positive also, the same case to you. i got pregnant for the 3rd time, i was on clexane injection 40mg (low molecular weight) once daily, primolut injection weekly, duphaston twice daily, aspirin 75mg, folic acid and prenatal vitamins, but i miscarried again for the third time ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ i just want to inquire regarding your heparin that dr. prescribed you, is that low molecular or unfractionated ? and hope for the same good result and have a rainbow pregnancy. thanks and God bless your family. Please send me message on facebook "princess czyrine anthonette"
congrats to your healthy babies, which medicine did you take? low molecular weight or unfractionated heparin? thanks

Hiv disease for the last 3 years and had pain hard to eat and cough are nightmares, especially the first year At this stage, the immune system is severely weakened, and the risk of contracting opportunistic infections is much greater. However, not everyone with HIV will go on to develop AIDS. The earlier you receive treatment, the better your outcome will be.I started taking ARV to avoid early death but I had faith in God that i would be healed someday. As a Hiv patent we are advise to be taking antiretroviral treatments to reduce our chance of transmitting the virus to others , few weeks ago i came on search on the internet if i could get any information on Hiv treatment with herbal medicine, on my search i saw a testimony of someone who has been healed from Hiv her name was Achima Abelard and other Herpes Virus patent Tasha Moore also giving testimony about this same man,Called Dr Itua Herbal Center.I was moved by the testimony and i contacted him by his Email.drituaherbalcenter@gmail.com We chatted and he send me a bottle of herbal medicine I drank it as he instructed me to.After drinking it he ask me to go for a test that how i ended my suffering life of Hiv patent,I'm cured and free of Arv Pills.I'm forever grateful to him Drituaherbalcenter. Here his contact Number +2348149277967...He assure me he can cure the following disease..Hiv,Cancer,Herpes Virus,Lyme Disease,Epilepsy, ,Bladder Cancer,Colorectal Cancer,Breast Cancer,Kidney Cancer,Leukemia,Lung Cancer,Non Hodgkin Lymphoma,Skin Cancer,Lupus,Uterine Cancer,Prostate Cancer, fibromyalgia ,ALS,Hepatitis,Copd,Parkinson disease.Genetic disease,Fibrodysplasia disease,Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva,Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Syndrome,Liver/Kidney Inflammatory,Men/Woman infertility, bowel disease ,Huntington's disease ,Diabetes,Fibroid...
I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
