I got the results of my blood tests and husband’s semen analysis through email two weeks after the tests were done. The results of my PRL (prolactin) and TSH were within normal limits. The level of AMH is 3.36mg/ml, thus should I continue with the IVF, I have to take protocol 1. To read more about PRL, TSH and AMH, please click here.
The semen analysis, on the other hand, was also within normal limits. In addition to the usual semen analysis, sperm staining was also performed. Sperm are stained and enlarged up to 1000 times to assess the normal morphological proportion, to predict the probability of oocyte fertilization (General sperm analysis only checks up to 100-fold amplification, and staining is not performed.) This is a stricter classification called the Kruger strict criteria for assessing sperm morphology.
Given our case, the success rate is 50% according to Dr. Lee. That’s a 50-50 chance for us… A gamble?!? Indeed it is! With all the associated risks and costs involve in IVF, the whole thing can seem like an enormous gamble. It can feel a lot like playing in casino tables wherein you put down a huge amount of money in the hope of a big payoff – a baby. And just like gambling, the more money you lose, the more you’re tempted to try just one more time to get that prize.
Honestly, up until now, we are still thinking whether or not to push through with the IVF. I’m sure everything will be worth it if it is successful, but what if it isn’t? If you were in my place, would you go for it?!?
Right now, what I'm doing is I’m trying to increase the odds of our success by finding and doing every possible ways, no matter how small it is, to optimize our fertility... getting myself ready... physically, mentally, emotionally, financially and spiritually for this one big fight.

Anyway, just to let you know, I went through IVF under Dr. Lee of Mackay Memorial and it was successful :) I have a cousin who also went thru IVF under Dr. Lee and she's now pregnant with twins :) If ever you do decide to go through IVF in Taiwan, I know you'll be in good hands. I chanced upon your blog while searching the web for cases of infertility. I feel for you because me and my husband are ttc for baby #2. We have a son who is now 11yo. We also went through the whole workup, accupuncture and iui. They all failed. We're going to have a 2nd rnd of iui this month. We cant afford IVF and so we're utilizing other means. I have heard of 'hilot' to correct the 'matris' as it was used in the old days by women who are having a hard time conceiving. So I will be going through with that to 'ready' my ovaries for iui next week. Hope you'll update your blog about your journey. Baby dust to us all :))

A doctor friend has suggested another doctor in Manila, who is my batchmate(btw, I'm a doctor). He is coming back this month from a series of training abroad, and said the he has new methods. My friend who is now decided to go to Taiwan for IVF saw your blog and showed it to me. I feel like leaving a positive comment and surprised to see that my cousin Karen was the first to comment here. I am the cousin she was referring to, pregnant with twins. I gave birth already to my twins (boy and girl) last January. And for additional encouragement, Karen is now pregnant with her second baby (3 mod) and her sister is also pregnant (8 wks). All ivf done by Dr. Lee.
It is worth the try, if your concern is the amount of money to be spent it is way cheaper there (including accommodation) than here in Manila. I've met some couples from Manila also there, which means Dr. Lee has a lot of patients already from Manila.
Anyway, I don't know how old you are but our biological clock is ticking so don't waste more time, go for it! I am now 41yo turning 42 soon, just for your info.

My husband and I are ttc for 3.5 years, and i must say, it was emotionally painful. We always get disappointed every month when my period comes.
To make the story short, we tried IVF here at Carmi St. Luke's Global under Dr. Novero, and sad to say, it failed. We underwent one IUI under my previous OB, and she told me that IVF is best option for us based on our case. So when we tried IVF and it failed, you can imagine how devastated we were that time. According to Doc Novero, our chance of conceiving naturally is only 2% so we don't have any option but to try IVF again. We still opted to try 2nd attempt still with Doc Novero.
